Bio
Shellie Jacobson was born in Buffalo, New York where she began her art career studying drawing and painting at the Albright Art School, now part of the Albright-Knox Art Museum. She attended Carnegie-Mellon University (BFA) and later completed graduate studies at Rutgers, the State University (Ed.D).
Jacobson has been actively involved in the field of ceramics, both teaching and exhibiting, for more than thirty-five years. She exhibited her work often in New Jersey as well as nationally and internationally with recent exhibitions in Seoul, Korea, Mashiko, Japan and Santorini, Greece. She was an active member of the Princeton Artists Alliance and East West Ceramic Association.
In addition to ceramics, Jacobson creates artists books and was a visiting artist at the Experimental Printmaking Institute at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Her books were part of traveling exhibitions to several US cities as well as Costa Rica, Mexico and England. She is a participant in the Al-Mutanabbi Street Begins Here international book project. Her book arts extends to creating paper garments such as a paper vest about the Trenton marsh, an orator's message vest and recently a shawl-like paper installation about women's suffrage. Her artist books are part of the permanent collection at the Lafayette College Skillman Library , Newark Museum and the Ben Shahn Gallery.
Jacobson renewed her interest in printmaking working at the Print Center of New Jersey where she created a series of solar etchings and collograph reliefs. She exhibited her prints at her one person exhibitions at the Romano Gallaery and Hutchins Gallery as well as the Print Center of New Jersey and the Arts Council of Princeton. Her etchings are part of corporate and private collections. Her current printmaking focuses on mono types.
